The old Egyptian capital - Thebes - on the site of which Luxor is now located, can be considered a museum almost entirely. The surviving ruins of at least four majestic temples, the tombs of the Valley of the Kings and Tsarits, the museum itself - crowds of tourists do not dry out all year round.
Like every ancient temple in Egypt, the Luxor Sanctuary is a symbolic representation of the Nile. Powerful pylons at the entrance (the gate of life, the source of life) open the way to the threshold of the temple - the columned hall, then the ritual hall and the sanctuary. Powerful columns covered with hieroglyphs, statues of pharaohs and gods - all here testifies to the flourishing of a great culture.
From the entrance to the temple begins the alley of sphinxes, guarding the peace of the ancient gods. The best time to visit the ruins of the temple is in the early morning, when the first rays of the sun suddenly grab the colonnade, pylons and statues from dusk, or the night when artificial lighting creates an atmosphere of magical mystery near the temple.
Amon Ra Temple in Karnak
One of the largest temple complexes in Egypt is 2 kilometers from a small one from Luxor. In fact, this is not one, but several temples: Amonu-Ra, Ptahu, Amenhotep II, Khonsu, Mut, etc. Particular attention of tourists is attracted by the so-called Red, White and Alabaster chapels - sacred buildings painted inside with scenes from coronation rituals, the lives of kings and gods.
