Egyptian physician and civil servant, Englishman Gayer-Andreson, was a passionate collector. A valuable specialist was allocated two old houses in the center of Cairo for housing, which he bought. Having placed his collection in all rooms of the two-story building, Gayer-Anderson bequeathed his entire fortune to Egypt. After his death, a museum was opened here.

The museum is located behind the oldest mosque in Egypt, in front of the entrance there is a small garden, well preserved. The exposition acquaints visitors with the life of the rich citizens of the East. All items in the museum are arranged in such a way that creates a sense of the presence of the owner. Each new room is decorated in a new style.

Furniture, carpets, luxury goods, small plastic samples from Syria, Turkey, Persia. Antique dishes adorn the walls of the hallway and reception. The gift room from the Egyptian sheikhs amazes with wealth and luxury.

The museum has an excellent collection of ancient coinage, oriental weapons. Of interest are the oriental carved chests, which were used as a kitchen elevator.

The internal balcony with a low ottoman and a table with tea accessories looks cozy and homely.

The museum is proud of a small collection of paintings brought by the founder from India and Iran.

Of great interest is the collection of items of women's toilet: combs, jewelry boxes, boxes for cosmetics, etc.

A separate exhibition is dedicated to the family of the founder of the museum. These are mainly photographs and personal items.

The museum's terrace offers great views of medieval Cairo and Tulun Mosque. And the reception on the ground floor of the museum is decorated with a mosaic floor and a fountain.

The museum is open from 8 am to 4 pm. A feature is that even an individual visit is possible only with a guide. This is not associated with additional costs. Escort is necessary so that visitors do not miss a single room in a tangled eastern house. Security considerations are also relevant.

Entrance ticket - 30 Egyptian pounds. Wheelchair users cannot visit this museum.
