Three - Perov. 123.5x167.5

The work of the great artist, the most recognizable, tragic, emotional and legendary one, has been capturing the audience for more than a century and a half, making her empathize and sympathize with the heroes of the work.

Along a deserted and ominously gloomy street swept by an ice blizzard, three children carry a huge tub of water, covered with matting. Water splashing out of the tub instantly freezes, turning into icicles. So the author denotes a winter cold, which makes the work even more dramatic.

Three children's figures, different but equally exhausted, were harnessed to a wagon like a trio of horses. The face of the only girl in the team is turned directly to the viewer. An open sheepskin coat opens an old, worn skirt. The eyes are half-closed, tension on the face and inexpressible torment. Her hair is fluttered by a cold wind, and heavy and not very old large shoes further emphasize the fragility of a girl's figure.

The leftmost boy, apparently the youngest of the trinity. Hard work seems to have almost completely deprived him of his strength. The hand hangs limp, tension is read throughout the body, and a thin pale children's neck and look, full of despair and hopelessness, completes the tragic picture.

As you know, the master for a long time could not find a model for the central figure of the three. This is the oldest of the children depicted in the picture. According to the plot of the work, it is the central figure that bears the main part of the dramaturgy of the work. As a senior in a team, the boy is trying to play the role of a leader. He, overcoming pain and cold, does not show his fatigue. All forward looking, he by his very appearance gives strength to weakened comrades.

The children’s eyes of the trinity of sufferers, their clothes from someone else’s shoulder, overwork - the master encourages the viewer to be horrified by the situation of children, calls for mercy.

Particular attention should be paid to the surrounding landscape. A deserted street, a monastery wall (this can easily be determined by the part of the gate with an image above them), two human figures - a man wrapped in a fur coat from the cold, pushing a person behind the water barrel. The author does not show us the faces of adults. It is as if they are not present in the picture, they become only part of the landscape.

The dog running alongside was completely unhappy. Grinning at the cold, darkness and twilight, he accompanies his masters, transferring all hardships and difficulties with them.

The author chooses the darkest and most inexpressive colors for his work, the light snatches out only the faces of the three main characters from the frosty haze.

A gray, gloomy sky is revived by several flying birds, also suffering from frost.

Gray, dirty snow underfoot, scattered brushwood, icy sledges. All of the above enhances the impression of the picture, filling it with an atmosphere of hopelessness, suffering and doom.

The work became a powerful and loud denunciation, a protest against the use of child labor, a ruthless attitude towards children.
